We only have "ONE EARTH" - a reminder via poetry by poets from across the planet.
These poems - written in appreciation and mostly AWARENESS - were originally in response to a "poetry prompt" hosted on Instagram by POETRY EARTHLINGS - a global poetry community & platform that aspires to "bring the focus back to nature" via poetry. This prompt asked poets to share their take on the theme "ONLY ONE EARTH" which was also the theme for 2022's theme for World Environment Day, observed on June 5. For the past 50 years, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has been observing "World Environment Day" on June 5.
So, on an Instagram LIVE, the Founder of POETRY EARTHLINGS, Avilasha Sarmah (@storyteller_earthling) was joined by fellow poet Kaylia (of @kayliawrites) in reading this collection of poems - all intent on drawing attention to the "need to be mindful of our actions, and live sustainably and in harmony with nature".
The Instagram Live touched upon the following topics:
The essential reminder - yes, we only have ONE EARTH, and what are we doing about it - are we living mindfully and sustainably as we ought to? Because our present actions will impact the future, for as the saying goes "We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children".
The role "Poetry Inspired by the Earth" plays in awareness & appreciation, and if at all poetry can make an impact.
